Trampoline Safety Guide for Parents in Kenya

Trampolines are safe when the right size is matched to the child, the net stays zipped, and a few ground rules are followed. Here is what Kenyan parents should know before the first bounce.

6ft trampoline with safety enclosure net in a Kenyan family backyard

Quick Answer

Choose a size that fits your child's age, keep the safety net closed, supervise young jumpers, and place the trampoline on flat ground away from walls and trees. Our 4ft–6ft models suit toddlers and primary-school children; 8ft and above suit older kids with more space.

Why Safety Matters More Than the Bounce

Most trampoline injuries happen when children of very different weights jump together, when the safety net is left open, or when the frame sits on uneven ground. The good news: each of those is preventable with the right setup and a few household rules.

Every trampoline we sell includes a full safety enclosure net, frame padding, and a written installation guide. If you are buying your first trampoline, start with our size guide for Kenyan backyards — the wrong size is the most common safety mistake we see.

Pick the Right Size for Your Child's Age

  • 4ft and 5ft — toddlers and children aged 2–6. Low bounce height, fits indoors or on a balcony. See our 4ft trampoline and 5ft trampoline.
  • 6ft — the sweet spot for primary-school children in a typical Kenyan compound. Our 6ft trampoline is the most popular family size.
  • 8ft–12ft — older children, teenagers, and families with large outdoor space. Heavier frames and taller nets. Browse 8ft, 10ft, and 12ft models.

Setup Rules That Prevent Most Accidents

  1. Place the trampoline on flat, firm ground — not on a slope or directly under tree branches.
  2. Leave at least one metre of clear space around the net on all sides.
  3. Check that every spring is attached and the safety pad fully covers the frame before anyone jumps.
  4. Anchor outdoor models if your compound is exposed to strong wind (common in Nairobi's dry season).
  5. Inspect the net zip weekly. A net that sags or has torn stitching should be fixed before use.

House Rules Worth Enforcing From Day One

  • One jumper at a time for children under eight — this single rule prevents most collisions.
  • No flips or somersaults unless the child is trained and the trampoline is rated for it.
  • Remove shoes, jewellery, and anything hard from pockets before jumping.
  • Keep the net door zipped while anyone is on the mat.
  • Adults supervise, especially for children under six.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are trampolines safe for toddlers in Kenya?

Yes, with the right size and supervision. A 4ft or 5ft trampoline with a full net is designed for toddlers aged 2–6. The bounce is low and the enclosure keeps little ones centred on the mat.

Does the safety net really make a difference?

Absolutely. The net prevents falls off the edge — the most common cause of trampoline injuries worldwide. Every Mr. Trampolines model ships with a 360° enclosure net as standard.
