Quick Answer
Cover the mat when not in use, wipe springs and frame after heavy rain, never jump on a wet mat, and check for rust on legs monthly. Store small indoor models away from leaking windows. Most trampolines last years with these simple habits.
Why Rain Is Hard on Outdoor Trampolines
UV-resistant mats and galvanized frames handle Kenyan weather well — but standing water, mud splashing onto springs, and children jumping on a slick surface cause problems fast. A little maintenance during March–May and October–December rains protects your investment.
Before the Rains Start
- Tighten all frame bolts — rain makes loose joints wobble more.
- Apply a light spray of WD-40 or equivalent to spring hooks if you live near the coast (salt air accelerates rust).
- Buy or make a waterproof cover that fits over the mat and springs. A tarp tied with bungee cords works if you do not have a fitted cover.
- Trim overhanging branches above the trampoline — wet leaves stain the mat and add weight.
During Heavy Rain
- Keep the cover on whenever nobody is jumping.
- If water pools on the mat, push it off from the centre before it stretches the fabric.
- Do not let children jump on a wet mat — it is slippery and hard to control landings.
- Check that drainage around the trampoline is not funneling mud under the legs.
After the Rains
Remove the cover on dry days so the mat can air out — trapped moisture underneath encourages mould. Wipe the frame with a dry cloth, inspect springs for rust spots, and re-tighten any bolts that loosened. If a spring looks bent or rusty through, replace it before use.
Indoor Trampolines in Rainy Season
Indoor 4ft and 5ft models are largely unaffected by weather — but watch for leaks near balconies and windows. Move the trampoline if water starts pooling on the floor nearby.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I leave my trampoline outside all year in Kenya?
Yes. Our outdoor models use UV-treated mats and rust-resistant frames designed for East African conditions. A cover during heavy rain extends their life significantly.
How often should I check the springs?
Once a month during rainy season, every two months during dry season. Look for gaps where a spring has come loose — that uneven tension affects bounce and safety.
